The Institute of Hazrat Mohammad (SAW) is pleased to announce that the Institute and My Outsourcing Ltd, a leading call center operator in Bangladesh have entered into a Training and Employment Agreement. Under the Agreement My Outsourcing Ltd shall assist the Call Center training program of the Institute and also provide employment opportunities for successful trainees in its Call Centers.

H. E. Madam Nur Ashikin Binti Mohd Taib, High Commissioner of Malaysia paid a visit to the Institute of Hazrat Mohammad SAW on January 16, 2017. She was accompanied by Mr. Idham Zuhri Mohamed Yunus, First Secretary and Mr. Mohd Fadzle Ismail, Third Secretary, of the High Commission of Malaysia. Lt. General (Retd) M. Nooruddin Khan, PSC, President, Major General Muhammed Firdaus Mian, PSC (Retd), Advisor, Ms. Tanim Laila, Director, Economics Division and Ms. Israt Jahan, Member of the Institute were present. The High Commissioner was apprised about the programs and activities of the Institute. In appreciation of the Institute’s activities towards voluntary social work, the High Commission of Malaysia donated an IT equipment towards enhancing the training facilities of the Institute of Hazrat Mohammad SAW. The President of the Institute expressed his deep gratitude to Her Excellency for this generous gesture observing that this recognition from the High Commission will be a source immense inspiration for the Institute. The Institute of Hazrat Mohammad SAW has been conducting free-of-charge training for visually impaired persons since 2006. Till date over 350 visually impaired persons have received training from the Institute on PABX, IT and Spoken English.

On occasion of Rabi-Ul-Awwal the Institute of Hazrat Mohammad (SAW) organized a Business Idea Competition for the Visually Impaired on Monday, December 12, 2016. This program aims to showcase the talents of visually impaired persons in light of the teachings of Prophet Mohammad (SAW) on establishing businesses and promoting self-dependency. H.E. Mr. Iwan Wiranata-atmadja, Dean of Diplomatic Corps & Ambassador, Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Dhaka graced the ceremony as the Honorable Chief Guest. H. E. Mr. Abdullah H.M. To express its solidarity with the UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) 2016, the Institute of Hazrat Mohammad SAW organized a Roundtable on December 3, 2016 at the Institute’s Board Room. The discussion examined the legal rights of persons with disability and the initiatives taken by the Government of Bangladesh towards promoting a more inclusive society. Mr. Monsur Ahmed Choudhuri, Former Member, UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities from Bangladesh chaired the discussion and Mr. Md. Amiruzzaman, Secretary General of Consular Corps and Honorary Consul of Republic of Seychelles in Bangladesh attended as Honorable Special Guest. In his speech Mr. Choudhuri stressed the importance of hard work and determination and encouraged the participants to focus on their strengths and the opportunities that come their way. Barrister Seema Iqbal, the first visually impaired Barrister in Bangladesh highlighted the legal rights of persons with disability in Bangladesh. Hon. Mr. Md. Amiruzzaman reflected on the employment initiatives taken by the country’s corporates. Ms. Nuvana Haque, a visually impaired musician and student of the Institute of Hazrat Mohmmad SAW stressed on the urgency to dispelling prejudice on disabled persons through awareness and information exchange. Barrister Reazul Karim, Director Legal Affairs of the Institute of Hazrat Mohammad SAW mentioned that the Institute of Hazrat Mohammad SAW is dedicated towards empowering persons with disability through information technology - the training services, advocacy and legal support are the modalities of the Institute’s work. Barrister Rizwana Yusuf, Director Administration of the Institute of Hazrat Mohammad SAW discussed the various initiatives by the Government of Bangladesh in employment, education, transports that helps persons with disabilities to lead lives of independence and dignity. The roundtable was attended by visually impaired practitioners, human rights activists, autism consultant, childhood development specialist, IT specialist, journalist and visually impaired students of the Institute of Hazrat Mohammad SAW. Till date, over 350 visually impaired persons have received training from the Institute.

Institute of Hazrat Mohammad (SAW)

With the assistance of the Embassy of Germany in Dhaka the Institute completed expansion of its IT Lab facilities for Visually Impaired Students. The expansion includes an 'Index' braille printer, laptop and desktop computers. The expansion work completed in November 2013 and the new IT facilities is now equipped with training capacity for 20 students in every batch.

On the auspicious occasion of Holy Ramadan, the Institute of Hazrat Mohammad SAW organized a program for the visually impaired students on August 6, 2011. The program aimed to generate awareness about the principles of equality, charity and sacrifice of Holy Ramadan. The program was sponsored by the Westin Hotel, Dhaka. Visually Impaired students from various schools, colleges and universities throughout the country participated in this event as a means to raise awareness within our society of the abilities and potential of visually impaired persons. M Saiful Islam Shahen, Employee of Sight Savers International donated a Holy Quran in Braille to the Institute of Hazrat Mohammad SAW. The select gathering was attended by eminent personalities from diplomatic missions, philanthropists, educationists, the Government, the private sector and people from various other disciplines.

On the auspicious occasion of Eid-E-Miladun-Nabi the Institute of Hazrat Mohammad (SAW) organized an essay competition for visually impaired students from schools, colleges and universities throughout the country. The competition aimed to generate awareness and understanding among its participants on Prophet Hazrat Mohammad SAW as Peace & Blessings for Humanity. The competition culminated with a prize distribution ceremony on the 12th of Rabiul Awal (February 16, 2011) to commemorate the auspicious occasion of Eid-E-Miladun-Nabi. Prof. Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Chairman, National Human Rights Commission, H.E. Ahmed A. H. Eliman, Ambassador of the Great Socialist Peoples’ Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, H. E. Zet Mirzal Zainuddin, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. W. A. Sarath K. Weragoda, High Commissioner of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, H.E., Mr . The Institute of Hazrat Mohammad (SAW) organized a seminar entitled ‘Visibly Hidden Population of Women and Children in Squatters – the Case for Multi-Sector Intervention’. Dr. Kamaluddin Ahmed, Joint Secretary (Political), Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh graced the event as the Chief Guest. Dr. Salil Panakadan, UNAIDS Country Coordinator, and Ms. Margarita Clark, Deputy Country Director, Save the Children – USA (BD Country Office) were the special guest discussants at the seminar. Barrister Rizwana Yusuf, Director Admin and Member Legal Affairs of the Institute, presented the keynote paper entitled ‘Policy Thrusts Needed to Address the Vulnerability and Marginalization of the Internally Dislocated Women and Children in Distressed Urban Settings’. The other paper presentations were by Dr. Munir Ahmed, Social Mobilization & Partnership Advisor UNAIDS on ‘Vulnerability of Women and Children in Urban Squatters to Violence and HIV/AIDS’; Mr. Ashekur Rahman, Program Analyst Urban Local Poverty Cluster UNDP, on ‘Extreme Urban Poverty in Slums’; Mr. Mohammed Shafiqul Islam, Social Policy Specialist Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Section UNICEF, on ‘Child Poverty and Disparities in Bangladesh’; Professor A. Q. M. Mahbub, Dept. of Geography and Environment, University of Dhaka on Housing For The Urban Poor: Policy Failure or Denied Justice, Mr. Syed Tamjidur Rahman, CEO, ChangeMaker on Social and Economic Challenges and a Public Private Partnership Approach to Address Them and Ms. Tanim Laila, Director Economic Division, Institute of Hazrat Mohammad SAW spoke on ‘Exploring Zakat for improving lives of Internally Dislocated Women and Children’. The special guests and distinguished participants were engaged in a lively discussion towards generating a universal conceptualization of public-private partnership, exploring avenues for effectively utilizing Zakat as a means of reducing income disparity and generating socio-economic emancipation and the roles and responsibilities of the various stakeholders especially the leadership of the government. The Institute organised the competition marking the holy month of Ramadan. The visually impaired students from different schools, colleges and universities in the country participated in the competition. Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Zet Mirzal Zainuddin, and Ambassador Designate of the Republic of Philippines to Bangladesh Bahnarim Abu Guinomla, attended the program as the special Guests. The ceremony was attended by officials from diplomatic missions, different government and non- government organizations and the directors and members of the Institute.

A discussion session entitled Empowering Women: Transforming Disabilities to Abilities.The colloquium was conducted by Ms. Rokeya Haider, Managing Editor, Bangla Service at Voice of America. Participated by visually impaired youth that consisted of students of the Institute’s English language and computer skills capacity building course and from other educational institutions it was a lively platform for exchange of views and sharing experiences. Ms. Lauren Lovelace, Director, The American Centre Dhaka and Ms. Sonia Panni, President SAARC Women’s Association were the discussants in the program. The event was organized as a precursor to the International Day for persons with Disability 2009 on the theme of: “Realizing the MDGs for All: Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and Their Communities around the World”. The topic reflected upon the issue of women’s empowerment and its intensive implementation towards poverty alleviation and ensuring security of basic human rights in accordance to the Millennium Development Goals.

The Institute and the East West University launched a joint and collaborative workshop titled ‘Youth Ambassador for Social Change’ with the objective of engaging the youth in conscientious participation in community concerns as citizens of tomorrow. The members of the Environment and Social Club of the East West University consisting of students from different faculties took part in a day long introductory workshop initiating the concept of youth leadership for diminishing socio-economic and cultural issues that impacts individuals and the community. Vice Chancellor, East west University presided over the closing session. Amongst the other dignitaries, Christopher Hardaway, country director, American Bar Association attended the workshop as special guest.

A two day international workshop on ‘Non-profit Leadership- Maximising Impact’ was jointly organized by United Nations mandated University for Peace and Institute of Hazrat Mohammad (SAW). The Institute offered a low cost and economic methodology for the voters’ registration and preparation of identity card in four months time, presentation was made by Dr Monowar Hossain, Head of Economics Division of the Institute. A 12 day long program was organized by the Institute to mark the birth of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (SAW) during the Holy month of Ramadan. The 12 day long program begun with a recitation competition from the Holy Quran on April 23. The competition was presided by internationally reputed Quari Hazrat Moulana Obaidullah, which was participated by a numbers of Quaris from different institutions. Amongst the other programs were recitation competition of Surah Fatiha for children under 12, Islamic Gazals and Na’t a Rasul by eminent artist & the former Director General of the Shilpakala Academy Mr. Mostafa Zaman Abbasi.

The program was aimed at developing children’s moral character, understanding respect to elders and individual dignity, positive attitude, their role in family and society and tolerance and peace as taught in Islam.
